On Command Introduces High Definition TeleMate(TM) Set-Top Box

Video-on-Demand Entertainment Company Demonstrates Prototype at HITEC 2003 DENVER, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- On Command Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: ONCO), a leading provider of in-room interactive entertainment for the hotel industry and its guests, announced today that its prototype HD TeleMate set-top box will be demonstrated at HITEC 2003 in New Orleans. HD TeleMate provides full high definition television support including 720p and 1080i formats in VOD applications, and incorporates an HD tuner to allow reception of off-air ATSC broadcast channels. In addition, the platform supports the major digital audio formats. As a true IP solution, the TeleMate and HD TeleMate products utilize industry standard IP infrastructures spanning many standards-based technologies. As part of On Command's demonstration at HITEC 2003, On Command will demonstrate a TeleMate platform using a DOCSIS CMTS/cable modem for its infrastructure, which provides additional infrastructure options for hotels. HD TeleMate is an extension of On Command's TeleMate platform, which features IP video-on-demand delivery to the hotel room. A key benefit is that hotels can choose to add a single room or floor at a time as opposed to installing the technology in the entire hotel. This enables hotels to enjoy all the benefits of IP technology. IP technology gives hoteliers access to not only the TeleMate line of products but to many other IP based products and applications now and in the future. Because TeleMate is compatible with On Command's Roommate(TM) platform, it's easy for hotels to upgrade their Roommate digital systems to TeleMate IP on an as needed basis to meet guest demands. "The HD TeleMate set-top box is an example of On Command's commitment to the utilization of standards based hardware and software and third party off the shelf technologies," said David Simpson, senior vice president of engineering for On Command. "Leading edge design work from Tivella, Sigma Designs, Apple Computer and Com21 have enabled us to make great strides with this technology."
