Ceramic Frit is a glass enamel melted onto the glass during the tempering
What is fritted glass? Ceramic Frit is a glass enamel melted onto the glass during the tempering or heat strengthening stage of production. It is made up of mostly finely ground glass and pigments. The combination is applied to the glass by either silk-screening, painting or roller coating. When the glass is tempered it melts the glass powder and fuses to the float glass on which it was applied and traps the pigments.
Where would fritted glass be used? Most commonly fritted glass is found on the back of spandrel panels making them opaque and tinted to match the vision glass, or it is silk-screened on the vision glass in some pattern to block out a percentage of light & heat being transmitted. Although these are the most common places that you would find ceramic frit on flat glass, it also finds it's way into many other applications, like signs, wall partitions and furniture components.
