Hotwire Smart Room service for the Hospitality and Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU) industries is designed to allow hotels, resorts, and MDU enterprises to connect guests—whether they are in conference rooms, using kiosks in a lobby, or using personal notebook computers —to the Internet via high-speed DSL access. The offering is designed to help lodging enterprises generate revenue, differentiate their services and properties, and increase customer satisfaction.

The service, which includes the Hotwire DSL system and Nomadix's Universal Subscriber Gateway (USG), leverages the multi-drop capabilities of the provider's Hotwire MVL (Multiple Virtual Lines) technology. This technology permits multiple rooms to be served on a single telephone line utilizing only one port on each of the DSLAM (DSL access multiplexer) MVL line cards. Each 12 port MVL line card within the DSLAM serves up to 48 rooms, providing greater economies of scale. The provider states that USG provides transparent networking regardless of pre-set network configurations and enables authentication, authorization, and billing for high-speed data services used by the guest.
