Apparently, the students at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL have an appetite for at least two things: knowledge and sandwiches. As typical college students do, the students at Santa Fe take a break from the books and head over to the campus cafeteria for a mid-day, dinner time or late night snack. This is evident by looking at the volume of submarine sandwiches they scoff up from the SUBWAY® franchise that's been located on campus since August of 2006.
"In the summertime, we do quite well with our weekly sales figures," said franchise owner Jeff Mohr. "But when school is in session, which is our peak time, we can triple our weekly numbers. Honestly, if I had another whole lane, I could do double that."
A little over a year ago, the crowds grew to the point that Mohr knew he needed an innovative way to become as quick and efficient as possible. Since another lane was economically and logistically out of the question (the food court where the SUBWAY® is located is only 546 square feet), he had to look elsewhere for a solution.

Mohr contemplated for over a year about installing the T-Flex Coin Dispenser in his franchise, but he finally decided that the time for action had arrived. The results speak for themselves.
"During our busy period, from 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., we were averaging about 85 to 105 subs an hour before we got the T-Flex," Mohr noted. "Now, with the coin dispenser in place, we'll average anywhere from 90 to 125 per hour. Ultimately, I'm getting at least 15 more subs an hour out of it for at least 3 or 4 hours. This increases daily revenue significantly. This is a result of being able to get about 11 extra minutes of customers through the door during that time period, based on saving approximately 7 or 8 seconds per customer transaction."
Improving speed of service – and consequently, customer satisfaction – is only the beginning, according to Mohr.
"The T-Flex is easy to install and requires minimal employee training," he stated. "Our cashier errors are eliminated because the T-Flex automatically calculates the correct change through our existing Point of Sale system. This feature aids in safeguarding against shrink as well, and transactions become more dependable and accurate."
In place for a little over a year now, the T-Flex has become a permanent fixture in his operation.
"About a week into using it, I couldn't believe that I ever did without it," he recalled. "Although we haven't crunched all the numbers, I'm confident that based on the increased revenue, the T-Flex paid for itself in a very short timeframe."
