Safety And Security Remain A Driving Force In Hotel Value

Top three security threats every hotel can mitigate to drive profits

There is a perception among hotel executives that security should not be a top priority because it does not contribute directly to profits. This leads to reluctance from investors and hotel operators to invest in security solutions. However, safety and security have been cited as one of the major forces affecting the value of hotels and driving change in the hospitality industry. Furthermore, given that guests spend so much time on a hotel’s premises, the properties generally present greater vulnerabilities than other businesses in the hospitality industry. In addition, guests spend a majority of their time on these premises sleeping and thus unaware of what is happening in their surroundings, which raises even more threats.

Of particular importance though, is that hotel customers report safety and security as a primary concern. A proactive security plan can not only help put guests at ease but also help hotels to differentiate themselves among the competition, thereby driving improved customer satisfaction, and ultimately, sales. More so, studies show increased security may lead to an increased number of VIP guests, which also helps contribute to increased profits. Where should hospitality companies start when it comes to enhancing security on their properties?
