A new American Express MarketBriefing/Technomic survey reveals that more consumers have paid via mobile in a restaurant, and want to do so again in the future. According to Nation’s Restaurant News, 46 percent of consumers have paid for a meal after completing a mobile order via the restaurant’s app. The app has also enabled 31 percent of consumers to purchase meals in the restaurant.

The National Restaurant Association announced last week that restaurant job growth hit an 18-year high in 2013. The industry added jobs at a rate of 3.7 percent. This was the strongest gain since 1995 when the employment rate jumped 3.9 percent for the year. Restaurant segments that saw the most gains included snack and nonalcoholic beverage bars and donut and ice cream shops.
